Pengharaman Motosikal Kapasiti Kecil Kerja Gila!

Opinion: Left Lane For Motorcycles?

Over the past week, there was words making waves on the internet to restraint motorcycles below 150cc to only 70 km/h and to retain the said category of motorcyclists to the left lane of the highway on the social media.

A statistic shared by the Road Safety Department (JKJR) with a concerning figure, a whopping 60% of 6,742 deaths involves motorcyclists and pillion riders. Dato Rosli Isa, director of JKJR, said this proposal was called to reduce the rate involving motorcycle deaths.

Sure there is a group of motorcyclists may seem to be riding very carelessly and dangerously on the roads. They endanger their lives and they might just ‘bring someone along’.

However, I would like to argue on a few things relating to the above – not finger pointing though.

Last year, Iqram has interviewed JKR on the project to upgrade the motorcycle lane along Federal Highway since 2016. It is said that the project was to be completed by October 15th 2018 but let’s see, it’s coming to the end of January 2019 now and the upgrade works have not concluded. A media friend of ours recently commented that he has ridden on the new bridge at Jalan 222 albeit it is not yet ready for use.

How long more do the motorcyclists have to wait? For several years now, I have not rode on the Federal Highway, there are just too many risks during rush hour waiting to happen. Iqram was involved in an accident just last year, as he was filtering through traffic, a driver decided to change his lane without taking precautions, causing a mess. A big thank you to the driver, Iqram suffered from slipped disc and is slowly recovering currently.

Then there’s also drivers who are not bothered about the safety and well-being of another road user. Refer to the below photo to know what I’m trying to tell.

We still have drivers who are ignorant with the usage of rear fog lamps. This car’s fog lamp was so bright at night I could not stay behind, I was not directly behind but I’m affected still, hence, forcing me to slow down in order to let the person go farther before continuing my journey at regular cruising speeds.

He is not the only one, though. Here, we have another idiot who has modified their fog lamps, even so, why do you need to switch it on when the weather is perfectly clear?

And then there is also the proposal for motorcyclists to stick to the left lane, but that is one thing. Limiting them to 70 km/h is just utter bollocks. An eight tonne lorry is probably cruising between 80-100 km/h, not to mention the speeding express buses, how the hell could you come up with the idea for a motorcycle to be limited to 70 km/h? You must be mad to have even thought of that.

I thought the person who came up with the silly idea ought to travel on a motorcycle every day, or just shut their trap.
