After 18 years together across three classes in the MotoGP™ World Championship, HRC and Dani Pedrosa have announced that their longstanding partnership will come to an end at the end of the 2018 season, by mutual agreement. The two have enjoyed an incredibly successful relationship and since 2006, when the Spaniard joined the Repsol Honda Team, he has earned 31 victories and was runner-up in the MotoGP™ Championship on three occasions – becoming the rider with the third most podiums in the premier class, behind only Valentino Rossi and Giacomo Agostini.

REVIEW: 2018 Yamaha MT-09 – Dark Side of Japan

Ever since the Yamaha MT-09 was introduced back in 2014, customers have been loving its torquey setup and motard inspired design but at the same time complained about its suspension that’s too soft for liking when pushed hard and abrupt throttle. In 2017, during EICMA, Yamaha previewed & revised the looks and the chassis while keeping the engine tuning intact. We had the opportunity to stretch its legs for a few days, courtesy of Hong Leong Yamaha, who assembles and distributes the MT-09 locally. iPantas received the test unit and rode it on the streets of Kuala Lumpur urban sprawl for a few days before taking the Yamaha MT-09 to our test route to see how much it has improved.

Boon Siew Honda Spreads Their Wing Wider: Launches X-ADV and Africa Twin, Previews CB1000R

iPantas paid a visit to the Malaysia Autoshow which will conclude on the 29th of April at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). Granted, we ARE a motorcycling blog and the show focuses more on four-wheeled vehicles, but having heard the Honda CB1000R is on display, this writer made haste over to the event – without a second thought.

After paying for his day pass, this writer immediately made a beeline to the Honda Big Wing stand where multiple large-capacity Honda motorcycles were on display. Lo and behold, the big bikes include the CB500 F/R/X trio, the CRF250L, the Rebel, and the CBR650F. However, over at main attraction and in the center are three new models, two of which are already available for the Malaysian consumer, the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin adventure tourer and the X-ADV adventure scooter! The other is the brand-new CB1000R, a cafe-racer inspired sports naked motorcycle.

The CB1000R certainly looks vastly different to the old model (which was never officially sold here) with its circular LED headlight and overall retro-minimalist looks. Neo-retro designs are a little bit hit and miss, however judging by the amount of crowd gathered around the CB1000R (and in the writer’s personal opinion) iPantas is happy to report the “Neo Sports Cafe” theme Honda was promoting is definitely a hit.

Speaking to Mr. Chan, a Boon Siew Honda (BSH) BigWing representative at the stand, the X-ADV, Africa Twin and the CB1000R is another step in enlarging the Honda big bike presence in Malaysia. “The X-ADV and Africa Twin are already available to be ordered by prospective customers, while we are looking to sell the CB1000R by July this year.” Mr Chan elaborated.

Mr Chan also said BSH is not abandoning the smaller-capacity motorcycle segment. They are also looking to launch the new 2018 Honda PCX scooter in the coming months, priced approximately the same as the old model, to take on Yamaha’s successful NMax and NVX.

The Honda X-ADV is priced from RM 57,999 excluding GST, while the CRF1000L Africa Twin is priced from Rm 69,999 excluding GST. The pricing for the CB1000R is yet to be announced, but BSH is projecting a sales price of below RM 90,000. More as we find out.

Ed note: I own a Yamaha NVX and use it as a daily driver. Even if it’s to the grocery store. It’s a relief to hear that BSH is planning to introduce the newer PCX to refresh their current model. We shall find out when we get our hands on one of the new PCX to review. 😉  -J

Marc VDS bakal guna jentera Suzuki?

Jorge Lorenzo Bakal Sertai Suzuki?

SPIED: YAMAHA R15 NEXT?

From time to time since 2017 after the NVX155 was launched, there has been spottings of the YZF-R15 (v3) being tested on our highways.

In the recent weeks, a member of the team was driving nearby the factory – well, our member lives there, not driving there to just ‘stalk’ HLYM – and he has again spotted Hong Leong Yamaha’s (HLYM) test riders riding the R15.

Several days later, more images emerge on the internet of a yellow R15. Also being tested.
